One of our favorite tools for figuring out typography is WhatTheFont! at MyFonts. Simply grab (or take a screen shot of) the image with the font you’d like to know the name of, and upload it there. The clearer the text, the better.
It may ask you to verify a few letters as it deciphers what they are before it goes to work.
After that, it’ll give you a list of closest matches, with direct links to download or purchase the font(s) right there on the spot.
Pretty spot on!
This tool is also handy for finding similar fonts. For example, if a font you like is part of a big publishing package that are available to print magazines and newspapers, then chances are a license for that font set will cost you a pretty penny. However, the results will usually give you additional fonts that look just as good (or sometimes better!), which are either free or a fraction of the cost.
